Key Laboratory of Macrocyclic Chemistry and Supramolecular Chemistry of Guizhou Province

The Key Laboratory of Macrocyclic Chemistry and Supramolecular Chemistry of Guizhou Province was approved by the Science and Technology Department of Guizhou Province in July 2007. In November 2009, it passed related assessment and was officially established as a provincial key laboratory, supported by the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Guizhou University.


Focusing on cucurbituril and the design and synthesis of macrocycle compound such as calixarene and Schiff base, the Laboratory carries out deep and systematic research on the construction of supramolecular assemblies, structural control techniques, assembly rules and assembly mechanisms of macrocycle host compound. It constructs specific structures, photochemistry with molecular identification and chemical sensing performance, electrochemical sensors as well as analytical or separating materials with novel solid-phase microextraction coating. The Laboratory forms a research platform for chemical sensor preparation, environmental monitoring, drug delivery development, and biomolecules labeling. The Laboratory is the first macrocyclic chemistry and supramolecular chemistry base focusing on cucurbituril, which makes it an educating base for advanced professionals of macrocyclic chemistry and supramolecular chemistry, and an international academic exchange center.


Researchers of the Laboratory are mainly from the Chemistry Department of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Guizhou University. Among 17 full-time researchers, there are 13 professors, two associate professors and two lecturers. Ten hold doctoral degrees and three hold masters’ degrees. The laboratory has one provincial core expert, two listed into “project of cultivating hundred provincial innovative professionals internationally advanced," and two provincial outstanding sci & tech young innovative professionals.


The Key Laboratory of Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry of Guizhou Province was promoted and established from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Guizhou University in July 2007. Professor Zhu Tao served as the first dean.


Cucurbit [n]urils (Q[n]s or CB[n]s), a relatively new class of macrocyclic hosts with a rigid hydrophobic cavity and two identical carbonyl fringed portals, have attracted much attention in supramolecular chemistry from 2000, since Q [5], Q [7,] and Q [8] were successful isolated and X-ray characterized by the research groups of Kim and Day. Fortunately, in 2000, Prof. Zhu Tao received his Ph.D. under the supervisor of Dr. Anthony I. Day from the Department of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Then established cucurbiturils-based supramolecular chemistry as the main research topic in the Department of Chemistry of Guizhou University. After nearly 20 years of hard work, areas of developments include synthesis of cucurbiturils homologues and derivatives, metal-coordination, host–guest interactions, supramolecular assemblies as well as materials science, and relevant applications in sensing, catalysis, separation, drug delivery, polymer chemistry.


The Key Laboratory of Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry of Guizhou Province consists of a strong teaching and research team, including 13 full professors two associate professors and two lecturers, one first-batch key provincial experts, four province-level young science and technology talents.
