For a long time, Guizhou University (GZU) has maintained friendly cooperation with Thai universities and research institutions. Since the 1990s, GZU has signed cooperation agreements with over ten Thai universities. Between 2016 and 2024, the university hosted more than 2,000 short- and long-term students from Thailand. In 2024, five GZU students participated in exchange programs in Thailand, while the university welcomed over 110 visits from Thai universities and research institutions.

On August 22, leveraging the platform of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW), GZU further expanded its “friendship network” with Thailand. More than 40 representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand, the Asian-International Trade and Investment Association, the Thai-Chinese Education Alliance, as well as Thai universities, associations, and businesses, visited GZU to discuss cooperation.

Wang Jinrong, Vice President of GZU, highlighted the university’s longstanding commitment to international educational exchange and cooperation, particularly its enduring partnership with Thai universities. Within the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, promoting people-to-people exchanges and cooperation is a crucial way to strengthen international relations and enhancing mutual understanding. Moving forward, GZU will remain committed to actively advancing educational cooperation with Thailand by establishing open, multi-level, and well-regulated exchange models. The university aims to enhance academic and research exchanges with Thai universities and research institutions, further integrating into and contributing to China-Thailand cultural and educational cooperation platforms to chart a new blueprint for educational development between the two countries.

Montree Pongpan, Chairman of the Thai-Chinese Education Alliance, stated that GZU, through platforms like the CAECW, has built long-term, stable, and in-depth exchange and cooperation with Thai universities. He expressed hope that this meeting would further enhance communication and cooperation between Thai universities and GZU, and solidify their friendship.

At the exchange meeting, Wang Ting, Vice Dean of GZU’s School of Management, and Wang Yong, a professor at GZU’s College of Agriculture, provided overviews of their respective schools, highlighting their ongoing international cooperation projects and the current status of their international students. They expressed hopes to further strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Thai universities under the “Belt and Road” framework, promote greater exchanges between faculty and students, and collaborate to write a new chapter in China-Thailand educational development.

Prin Boonkanit, Vice President of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, and Somyot Wattanakamolchai, Vice President for International Affairs at Bangkok University, introduced the international cooperation initiatives of their respective institutions. They expressed their desire to deepen exchanges and collaboration with GZU, hoping that both sides can align their goals and pursue mutual development.

This meeting further strengthened the cooperation and friendship between GZU and Thailand’s educational sectors, universities, associations, and businesses, boosting the quality of education and internationalization efforts at GZU and its Thai partners.
