On October 8, Guizhou University hosted the inauguration ceremony of the Guizhou Base of the National Tianyuan Mathematical Southwest Center (the "Base") and the first meetings of its Academic and Executive Committees. The event brought together prominent attendees, including:
Tian Gang, Academician and Chair of the Academic Leadership Group of the Tianyuan Mathematical Fund under the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC);
Li Anmin, Academician and Director of the National Tianyuan Mathematical Center in Southwest China (TMCSC);
Zhao Guiping, Director of the Mathematics Division, Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, NSFC;
Yang Song, Director of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Science and Technology; and
Wang Jinrong, Vice President of Guizhou University.
The meeting, hosted by Wu Fuzhong, Dean of the Scientific and Technological Research Institute at Guizhou University, also included experts from other institutions such as Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Nanjing University, and Sichuan University.

In his opening remarks, Wang Jinrong expressed gratitude to the leaders and experts for their support. He highlighted Guizhou University's achievements in mathematics and the discipline's essential role in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. He described the Base as a significant milestone for the region's mathematical development and a "magnet" for young talent to contribute to the field.

Yang Song highlighted the Base as a significant initiative in implementing the policies of the 20th Party Congress and advancing science and technology in Guizhou Province. He reaffirmed the provincial government's commitment to supporting the Base through research funding, talent development, and infrastructure, while encouraging it to focus on research that addresses the province's specific economic and social needs.

Tian Gang underscored the foundational importance of mathematics across disciplines and its potential to drive advancements in fields like big data and astronomy. He urged the Base to create a vibrant academic environment, promote global and domestic collaboration, and nurture young talents.

Li Anmin praised mathematics as a discipline of enduring intellectual depth and practical significance. He called on participants to prioritize foundational research and innovative solutions to real-world problems.

Zhao Guiping proposed two key directions for the Base’s development:
Supporting the growth of TMCSC and integrating Guizhou’s mathematical research resources to advance the province’s mathematical capabilities.
Leveraging the power of mathematics to develop unique academic specialties and generate broader societal and academic benefits.

During the ceremony, Wang Jinrong announced the members of the Base’s Academic and Executive Committees. The unveiling of the Base was led by Tian Gang, Li Anmin, Yang Song, and Wang Jinrong.

Following the ceremony, the first meetings of the Academic and Executive Committees were convened. Jia Wensheng, Dean of the College of Mathematics and Statistics at Guizhou University, delivered a report titled Development of Mathematics Disciplines in Guizhou Province's Universities Over the Past Five Years. The report covered areas such as faculty development, academic achievements, teaching outcomes, competition participation, postgraduate admissions, and research strengths. Participating scholars engaged in discussions about the Base’s plans and goals.
The Base aims to align with the strategic priorities of TMCSC by fostering academic exchange, advancing scientific research, and nurturing talent. It aspires to become a leading hub for mathematical research and education in the southwest region, contributing to Guizhou's economic and social development and the broader advancement of mathematics in China.
