On November 8, the opening ceremony for Guizhou University's 2024-2025 Language Preparatory Program took place on the West Campus. Vice President Wang Jinrong attended the ceremony, which was hosted by Professor Hong Yun, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation.
Hong Yun introduced the audience to "Guizhou University's 100-Student Study Abroad Initiative," designed to elevate the university’s level of internationalization, enhance its efforts in cultivating globally-minded talent, and boost the rate of students pursuing advanced studies abroad. The initiative aims to cultivate young scholars with a sense of national responsibility, global perspective, creativity, and practical abilities. Since September, the university has organized 18 lectures on studying abroad, reaching over 2,000 students. A total of 102 students have enrolled in the program, applying to prestigious universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, etc.
At the ceremony, Vice President Wang Jinrong emphasized the importance of the university’s internationalization strategy in promoting global collaboration, developing internationally competitive talent, and improve the quality of international education. He also advised students to define their goals, face challenges head-one and stay committed to their goals.
Dr. Liang Jiexiong, Dean of the Graduate School at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, delivered an address via video. He mentioned his university’s collaboration with MIT and Zhejiang University and welcomed students to apply to the university.
Speaking on behalf of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Associate Dean Lu Menglan highlighted the significance of the program as a milestone in the university’s internationalization efforts. She pledged full support for the program, ensuring top-tier teaching resources, an excellent learning environment, and comprehensive guidance for students preparing to study abroad.
Student representative Liu Yuqi shared his perspective, noting that studying abroad is not only a pivotal personal choice but also an invaluable opportunity for growth. He encouraged his peers to seize the opportunity, pursue their dreams, and persevere through challenges to achieve outstanding results in their global academic journeys.
