Guizhou University hosted the "Forum on High-Quality Development in Guizhou with the Support of Academicians and Experts" on July 1. The forum focused on tapping into Guizhou's rich mineral resources and developing new productive forces, the event was part of the "Strengthening Party Building and Supporting Guizhou Initiative," organized by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
Wei Yueguang, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Guo Wanlin, also a CAS Academician, attended the meeting. Guizhou University Professor He Lin presided over the forum. Representatives and experts from various national and local academic and governmental organizations, as well as scientific societies, were also present.
Tian Zuliang, Director of the Development Planning Department of the Guizhou Association for Science and Technology, addressed the forum. He stated that the Guizhou CPC Provincial Committee and Government have formulated a new strategy to promote the development of science and technology, including new productive forces. He invited experts and scholars to provide valuable insights and support to further Guizhou's high-quality development.
He Zifei, Vice Chairman of the Guiyang Association for Science and Technology, discussed Guizhou's "rich mineral resources and precise exploitation" strategy. She noted that the provincial CPC committee and government have been faithfully following this strategy in the exploration, mining, and utilization of minerals, while adhering to the policy of "strengthening the city through industry" to boost the high-quality development of new industries in Guiyang and the Gui'an New Area.
Guo Wanlin analyzed the path of high-quality development in Guizhou, focusing on the integration of the ecological environment, mineral resources, education, and culture. He stated that achieving technological self-reliance and self-strengthening is a pressing task on China's journey to becoming a global leader in science and technology. He expressed hope that Guizhou could leverage its strengths while maintaining a focus on sustainable development. He also emphasized the role higher education institutions in Guizhou can play in this process.
Wei Yueguang suggested that Guizhou Province consider establishing a research and academic institution focused on mechanics to attract talent and drive the development of related industries. He also encouraged Guizhou to harness its unique resources, such as big data, to create synergy with the province's characteristic industries.
