On July 13, Guizhou University held a launch ceremony for its 2024 "San Xia Xiang" Rural Volunteer Social Practice Program at the Xiancai Building, West Campus. The "San Xia Xiang" initiative involves college students providing educational, medical, and infrastructural support to rural areas. Attendees included GZU Party Secretary Yang Wei, Deputy Party Secretary Zhang Jie, Vice President Wang Jinrong, as well as representatives from various university departments, colleges, and student groups. Liu Kui, Secretary of the University Youth League Committee, hosted the event.
Yang Wei outlined three main goals for the 2024 social practice program:
Strengthen ideals and problem-solving skills: Students should deepen their understanding of Party values while improving their ability to address real-world issues through hands-on practice.
Take responsibility: Through social observation and participation, students are encouraged to refine their skills and achieve tangible outcomes.
Foster teamwork and ensure safety: Students must collaborate effectively, stay well-organized, and prioritize safety during their activities.
Yang encouraged students to step beyond the classroom and engage in real-world experiences, contributing to the community while showcasing the talents and energy of GZU students.
During the ceremony, Deputy Party Secretary Zhang Jie presented flags to the representative teams for the 2024 program, and Vice President Wang Jinrong awarded certificates to the national key teams.
Past participants shared their experiences, including Tian Yi, a 2023 recipient of the National Social Practice Excellence Award, and teacher Chen Shiwan from the College of Resources and Environmental Science. Both highlighted the importance of grassroots development and how the program can impact local communities.
Three outstanding teamsfrom the College of Agriculture, the College of Communication, and the College of Computer Science gave presentations on their projects and achievements.
This year, Guizhou University successfully secured funding for 10 volunteer service teams as part of a national selection process. The university has organized 225 social practice teams, involving over 1,000 students and faculty. These teams will focus on key areas such as rural revitalization, industrialization, and research. Through activities like seminars, volunteer services, and fieldwork, students will gain deeper insights into China’s development and contribute to the nation's modernization goals.
