“Young people are the future of our nation and the world”. On the afternoon of October 22, GZU hosted a reading session at its Chinese Culture Academy, themed “Reflecting on the Growth of Chinese Youth Amid Global Changes”, under the framework of the “New Era Initiative of Fostering Virtue Through Education”. Zhang Jie, Deputy Secretary of the CPC GZU Committee, attended and delivered a speech. Hu Dan, a host from Guizhou Broadcasting and Television Station, presided over the event.
Zhang Jie emphasized that changes in the global landscape not only influence interactions between nations but also profoundly shape the future of individuals. In facing the challenges of a changing world, Chinese youth should
embrace the mindset that “everyone has a duty toward their country”. She encouraged young people to grow through learning and explore through practice, aspiring to “investigate the relationship between humanity and the universe and understand the course of historical evolution” while “making the most of their youth and enriching their lives through the royal road of learning”. She urged attendees to use this reading session as an opportunity for in-depth learning, broad exchanges, and collaborative reflection on finding their roles within the evolving global landscape and contributing their youthful energy to realizing the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
Zhang Luyuan, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at Shandong University, provided a guided reading on the session’s theme, focusing on the dual aspects of change and adaptation. She delved into the dynamics of global transformation, China’s evolution, and the shifts in youth development. She also offered expert commentary on three books: Science: The Endless Frontier, The Characteristics of Chinese Philosophy, and Why Marx Was Right. Through introducing these works, she highlighted the “power of development”, “roots of culture”, and “essence of thought”. She emphasized the pivotal roles of science, culture, and thought in navigating global changes and commended contemporary youth for their active participation in advancing the cause of national rejuvenation.
Four GZU teachers then shared their insights and reflections on youth development and ideological and political education. Professor Liu Huajun from the School of Marxism shared reading recommendations for young students. Wu Kai, Deputy Director of the Center for Contemporary Chinese Marxism Studies and Associate Professor at the School of Marxism, examined the interplay among the “roots of culture”, “power of development”, and “essence of thought” and their roles in fostering youth growth. Cao Zheng, Director of the Teaching and Research Office on Current Affairs and Policies at the School of Marxism, discussed how young students can consciously resist materialism, hedonism, and extreme individualism to lead meaningful lives. Associate Professor Yi Dani, also from the School of Marxism, shared her observations on how today’s youth differ from previous generations based on her teaching practice.
During the session, students actively participated in discussions, posing questions related to the session’s theme. The attending teachers responded to each question in detail.
The event was hosted by GZU and organized by the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Marxism, and the national-level outstanding teacher studio for ideological and political courses at GZU. Representatives from the Party Affairs Office, Publicity Department, Student Work Department, Graduate Work Department, Office of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the School of Marxism, as well as student representatives from various colleges, attended the session.
