On October 26, a gathering of alumni residing in Yunnan convened in Kunming for the inaugural conference of the Yunnan Alumni Association of Guizhou University. Li Jianjun, Chairman of the Social Construction Committee of Guizhou Provincial People's Congress, former Secretary of the Party Committee of Guizhou University, along with Zhang Dalin, Vice President of Guizhou University, attended the meeting. The founding conference was held at the Yunnan Jindongfang Law Firm, marking a significant milestone for the alumni network.
“Building an alumni association demands both passion and dedication, and I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to those alumni who have contributed to the establishment of the Yunnan Alumni Association.” In his address, Li Jianjun celebrated this significant milestone and reflected on the rich history of Guizhou University, highlighting the unwavering support from successive national leaders. Li Jianjun stated that over its 122-year journey, Guizhou University has cultivated more than 570,000 remarkable talents, each making substantial contributions to the nation's economic and social advancement. Since the establishment of the Alumni Association in 2007, over 40 alumni chapters have been formed, serving as vital links between alumni and the university, as well as among alumni themselves. This network has become an essential platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging experiences, fostering collaboration, and strengthening connections. “Today, I proudly identify as a member of the Guizhou University alumni community, which will always feel like home. I encourage everyone to view the establishment of the Yunnan Alumni Association as an opportunity to rekindle friendships, reinforce our bonds, support one another, and collectively strive for the mutual development of our alma mater and the broader alumni network.”
Zhang Dalin read the approval document for the establishment of the Yunnan Alumni Association. Subsequently, Li Jianjun and Zhang Dalin awarded appointment letters to the members of the inaugural board of directors. In addition, they presented plaques recognizing the “Alumni Home” and the “Teaching Practice Base”, symbolizing the commitment to fostering a vibrant alumni community.
Chen Yuebing, president of the Yunnan Alumni Association and a distinguished alumnus of the 1978 Physics Department at Guizhou University, recently delivered an insightful speech regarding the association's initiatives. Since 2022, the Yunnan Alumni Association has established a preparatory committee that has convened multiple meetings to enhance communication among alumni throughout Yunnan and to promote the formal establishment of the association. In his remarks, Chen expressed his sincere gratitude for the trust, encouragement, and support extended by both the alma mater and fellow alumni. He acknowledged the responsibility that lies ahead and pledged to uphold the association's regulations diligently. Under the guidance of the alma mater, he is committed to leading the Yunnan alumni in fostering the growth and development of the association, ultimately contributing to a brighter future for their beloved institution.
Alumni of Guizhou University, Zhou Jincheng from the 1961 Physics Department, Shen Fusheng from the 1979 Mathematics Department, and Zhang Yu from the 2001 Chemistry Department, fondly reminisced about their academic experiences and expressed profound gratitude toward their alma mater. “We will always be students of Guizhou University. No matter what our current positions are, we are dedicated to giving back to our home institution,” they stated. “With the support of the alumni association, we are confident in our collective growth and our ability to contribute to the advancement of Guizhou University and Yunnan in our respective fields.” Additionally, Lan Yaozhong, a distinguished academician, Yunling Scholar, and second-level professor at the International Joint Research Center for Rare and Precious Mineral Materials at Yunnan University, conveyed his heartfelt connection to Guizhou University. He congratulated the establishment of the Yunnan Alumni Association and expressed his hopes for the university’s enduring success.
Prior to the founding conference, Li Jianjun and his team conducted a visit to CCB & YEIG Digital Technology Co ., Ltd, an esteemed enterprise established by alumni of Guizhou University. This engagement not only facilitated valuable exchanges of ideas but also aimed to strengthen the connection between the institution and its graduates in the realm of digital technology.
Attendees of the meeting included pertinent officials and esteemed professors from various key departments, namely the Party Affairs Office, the Office of the President, the Publicity Department, the Department of United Front, the Office of International Relations, as well as representatives from College of Law and College of Mining.
